After a fabulous deep sleep, Les bounded out of bed early the next morning. His headache was gone and apart from his knee still giving him a slight twinge, he didn’t have an ache or a pain in his body. He put the kettle on then cleaned his teeth and splashed water on his face.

‘Hello, super screw,’ Les smiled to himself in the mirror. ‘Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the greatest lover of them all? Why, you are.’ Norton walked into the bedroom and started laughing as he climbed into his Speedos and gym gear. ‘Give me an L, give me an E, give me an S. What’s that spell? Les. I can’t hear you. What’s that spell? Les. I still can’t hear you. LES!!!’ Yeah, that’s more like it.

Les made a cup of herb tea and took it out onto the balcony to find another beautiful day dawning. He checked the activities sheet and looked at his watch. He still had plenty of time to catch the tai chi class on Meditation Hill and photograph the sunrise. After doing the herb tea tango, Les got his camera and walked out the door.

Outside he wasn’t sure where the path was that led up the hill. There was a path behind the pool area; maybe it ran up from there? However, all Les could find when he got there was a workman’s area littered with rolls of aqua duct, iron bars, wire, pieces of wood and whatever scattered around the resort’s generator. But no separate path. Then he noticed a small group of people climbing up the far side of the hill. Les double-timed it round to where a wooden stairway ran up in front of the villas further along from his. Les climbed the path and came to an area that had been scooped from the top of the hill and paved with slate tiles. There was a stone bench seat on either side and a small fountain stepped into the tiles trickled softly towards one of the seats. Six women and one man were lined up facing the sun on a rim above the tiled area, and below them Peta was standing in front of the fountain in her gym gear. She saw Les and smiled. Les smiled back then put his camera down on the closest seat, climbed up to the rim and joined the end of the line.

‘All right,’ said Peta. ‘We’ll begin. I’ll tell the story and all you have to do is follow my movements. Start by bending your knees slightly and holding your arms out in front of you.’ Peta waited till everyone was ready then began.

‘In the beginning there was heaven and earth. Along came man and opened up his heart to heaven and earth. He painted a rainbow across the sky and reached through the clouds. As the clouds parted the rain fell and the man drank. Two swallows travelled, the male swallow dived towards the female swallow and the female swallow dived to greet the male and they formed a union.
